Description

An excellent opportunity to acquire a beautifully restored and extended red brick period home in the heart of Phibsborough village.

32 Connaught Street has a handsome red brick exterior, with a railed, pebbled garden area to the front and is approximately 500 metres from Phibsborough Luas station.

While renovating the property in 2016 the current owners retained as many of the original features as possible. The result is a beautiful period home with a modern flare. The original cornicing, floors and fireplace remain in the main reception room which benefits from an extra high ceiling. The kitchen was extended to the rear and a large glass sliding door fills this fantastic space with natural light.

The sliding door opens up into the private rear garden which extends to approximately 1,000 sq. ft. and has the benefit of rear vehicular access from a secure lane which only residents have access to. There is an external utility shed in the garden which provides space for laundry and extra storage.

The accommodation at ground floor level comprises a large entrance hallway, off which there is a fine reception room with a cast iron open fireplace, this room is interconnected with the bright kitchen / dining room which overlooks the rear garden. There is also a bedroom and main bathroom at ground floor level. At first floor level there are two double bedrooms.

Interesting fact about 32 Connaught street - In the aftermath of the 1916 rising, IRB council meetings were held in this home at 32 Connaught Street as the past residence of Seamus and Kitty O’ Doherty, both of whom were active in the ‘Irish cause’ pre and post the 1916 Easter rising. The O'Doherty household became a meeting place and later a safe house for republicans such as Eamon de Valera and Michael Collins, which provoked a noted failed assassination attempt on occupants in the house, with bullet marks still visible in the adjoining property.

Area Info

Connaught Street is one of Phibsborough’s most exclusive roads lined with handsome redbrick homes and neat gardens. Connaught Street has excellent transport links with numerous bus routes and the recent addition of the Luas line which stops at the end of the road.

Shopping is easy locally, with everything from a Tesco store in the Phibsborough Shopping Centre to the usual array of pharmacies, newsagents and eateries, ranging from Two Boys Brew and the Bang Bang cafe to Bald Eagle restaurant and bar.

Plans for a €50 million redevelopment of the Phibsborough shopping centre, including construction on part of the grounds of Dalymount Park will add further value to the area.
